Pumice Stone

Pumice simply refers to a volcanic rock that came into existence when lava rich with water and gas is thrown out of a volcano. These rocks contain small gas bubbles.

Pumice is unique and is widely useful thanks to its natural properties. It looks light in color, contains low iron and magnesium. It is however rich in silica. In terms of weight, it is extremely light and floats on water and will sink as its pores become filled with water.

Expanded Perlite

Perlite is mined globally and is a form of volcanic glass (SiO2).  It is but an amorphous volcanic glass with high water content. It results due to the hydration of obsidian.

This is a naturally occurring rock that expands rapidly when subjected to sufficient heat amounts, for instance, 900 degrees Celsius or above. It will expand to about 13 times its size and pop up just like popcorn. The resulting substance becomes so much lighter and can weigh barely 1kg a 14 liter.

Perlite is a useful industrial mineral that is also used widely as a commercial product thanks to its low density post processing.

Vermiculite

Vermiculite is naturally occurring minerals with characteristic color that range from dark gray to sandy brown exist as flakes upon processing which ideally is composed of magnesium iron aluminum silicate.

In its natural state vermiculite looks brownish and resembles mica and usually expands rapidly when subjected to heat. The expansion occurs when water residues beneath its layers transform into steam causing it to expand.

Peat Moss Substrate

Peat moss is actually the dead fibrous and it has 95% organic materials. Peat moss is actually decomposed plant materials. This product accumulated in the water-saturated environment without any help of oxygen. In the peat bogs, sphagnum moss is the easily available one. This moss is extracted from the peat bogs that dominate this type of species are known as Sphagnum peat. This type of peat has decomposed Sphagnum moss. Peat moss takes numerous millennia to take but it is not a renewable resource.

Peat moss can efficiently manage water and hold the nutrients. With such methods, peat moss can improve the consistency and texture of the soil.

Akadama

Akadama is a specific type of volcanic clay found only in Japan. It can be found in the Criptomerie forest which is nearly 3 meters under the ground. Here is a heating and drying extraction process that can eliminate any type of bacteria and even a small trace of parasites and so that you will get the sterilized and safe final product.

Akadama is one of the key ingredients required for the bonsai soils and to make the right soil for succulents and cactus. It needs to be mixed with other important products lapillus, peat, sand or pumice. This type of soil is good for the plants as it is enriched with necessary products for plants like minerals and it can easily maintain humidity at the right level. But there is no necessary nutrient in this type of soil that you need to provide through external sources like the fertilizer. You can recognize the soil for its different or unique color that is between brown and yellow. This color turns dark as it is wet and turns yellow as it is dry.
